When the lockdown came and we had to cancel our cookery classes we created a meal delivery service for elderly and vulnerable local residents.

Initially we delivered to our close neighbours at Greenacres. But we soon realised we could increase capacity and saw there was an urgent need among others locally for nutritious, home cooked meals delivered to the door.

We put the word out on social media and via Dover District Council’s excellent Community Hub and the orders flowed in. At the peak of the lockdown we delivered over 100 meals a day, made by Pieter and our brilliant team of volunteers.

Thanks to the support we receive from the National Lottery Communities Fund, as well as our volunteers’ unpaid input, we are able to send out a main meal and dessert for just £4.

The service continues, with five meals delivered each week on Mondays and Tuesdays. Customers can order as many or as few as they wish and we currently deliver to the Deal, Sandwich and St Margaret’s areas. We have capacity to deliver to new customers and are happy to serve any older, shielding or vulnerable local residents. Call us on 01304 362288 or email us at info@chequers.kitchen to find out more or place an order.
